THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE INGREDIENT

In laboratory studies using human skin cells, researchers investigated the extract’s effects on cortisol and signalling molecules including beta-endorphin and dopamine. Under the specific test conditions, the extract reduced cortisol release and increased the release of these signalling molecules. These cellular findings help explain its neurocosmetic role. They do not demonstrate a change in a person’s mood or overall stress levels.

WHAT THE HUMAN STUDY FOUND

A published, placebo-controlled study involved 21 women living in a polluted environment who had under-eye dark circles. Participants applied a cream containing 2% Tephrosia purpurea extract twice daily for 28 days.

Researchers measured skin colour and luminosity after 14 and 28 days. Compared with the placebo, the ingredient-containing cream produced significant improvements in measured luminosity and reductions in the redness-related colour measurement at both time points.

Published study: Well-aging: A new strategy for skin homeostasis under multi-stressed conditions

PENTAVITIN® is an award-winning, plant-derived carbohydrate complex developed by dsm-firmenich. On an ingredient list, it appears as Saccharide Isomerate.

It has a particular affinity for the surface layers of skin, where it binds readily and resists being rinsed away. In supplier testing of PENTAVITIN® as an ingredient, hydration was immediate and lasted up to 72 hours.

The research also mapped hydration at 30 points across the face in people from four ethnic groups, recognising that moisture levels can vary considerably between nearby areas.

First launched in 1982, PENTAVITIN® received the BSB Award for Most Innovative Raw Material in the Natural Products category and the China Personal Care & Cosmetics Innovation Award in 2012. In 2024, it received the K-Beauty Standout Award at in-cosmetics Korea.

PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY, CONSIDERED

EPITENSIVE™ is produced using Lipotrue’s Wild Plants as Biofactories technology. In this controlled process, Nicotiana benthamiana plants produce biomimetic proteins through biotechnology. The plants act as a production system, rather than supplying a conventional botanical extract.

WHAT THE INGREDIENT RESEARCH EXPLORES

Lipotrue’s research on the original EPITENSIVE™ includes laboratory studies, human skin models and a human-use study examining skin roughness, wrinkles and elasticity.

In the supplier’s human-use study, 20 women applied a gel cream containing 1.5% EPITENSIVE™ twice daily for 28 days. The ingredient-containing formula was tested against a placebo on opposite sides of the face. The supplier reported improvements in measured roughness, wrinkle appearance and elasticity.

These findings relate to the test cream and study conditions described. They are not results from testing Complete Elixir or Serum Spritz.

SK-INFLUX® is a lipid complex developed by Evonik, combining three ceramides, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP and Ceramide EOP, with cholesterol and phytosphingosine. Selected for moisture and barrier support, it complements Complete Elixir’s silky, nourishing texture.

CERAMIDES, CONSIDERED TOGETHER

Ceramides form part of the lipid structure in the outer skin barrier. SK-INFLUX® brings them together in a multi-lamellar system, meaning a structure made of multiple layers, designed to resemble the arrangement of the skin’s own barrier lipids.

The combination matters. Rather than considering ceramides in isolation, SK-INFLUX® places them alongside complementary lipids in a delivery system developed for skin moisturisation and protection.

Evonik’s technical literature describes research into how ceramides are incorporated into the outer skin barrier, alongside evaluations of moisturisation, moisture loss and visible skin scaliness.
